Panch Prayag refers to the five confluences or sacred junctions of rivers in the Uttarakhand region of India. These confluences hold immense religious significance in Hinduism and are considered as important pilgrimage sites. The five confluences are Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, and Vishnuprayag.
Devprayag: It is the first Prayag, located at the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. Here, the Alaknanda River emerges as the Ganges River. Devprayag is known for its tranquil surroundings and the Raghunathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Rama.
Rudraprayag: It is the second Prayag, formed by the merging of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. The town of Rudraprayag is named after Lord Shiva and houses the famous Rudranath Temple.
Karnaprayag: It is the third Prayag, situated at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers. Karnaprayag is known for its scenic beauty and the Uma Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati.
Nandaprayag: It is the fourth Prayag, formed by the union of the Alaknanda and Nandakini rivers. Nandaprayag is believed to be the place where King Nanda performed a yajna (ritual) for the birth of Lord Krishna. The Gopalji Temple here is a significant religious site.
Vishnuprayag: It is the fifth and final Prayag, formed by the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers. Vishnuprayag is named after Lord Vishnu and is home to the Vishnu Temple, dedicated to Lord Badrinath.
